Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and I’m super excited for DIE HARD 5 and SAFE HAVEN!!!! I feel reviews coming on! ๐
I’ve always felt like Valentine’s Day was a “Hallmark Holiday”… why do we need just one day a year where society tells us that we have to give someone flowers, cards, candy, jewelry, presents or tell them we love them? Why can’t we just do nice things like that when we want to? I mean, I love hearts as much as the next guy – but I love to make heart shaped cupcakes/pancakes/cakes/breakfast etc all the time because I love to do it… not because Hallmark told me that I had to do it on February 14th. Although I will say that I love seeing decorations in the stores and it makes me smile. ๐ But overall it’s too much pressure to be perfect and someone will inevitably be disappointed. Guaranteed.
Do we even know how this holiday got started?? Here’s what Wikipedia says about it…
“The most popular martyrology associated with Saint Valentine was that he was imprisoned for performing weddings for soldiers who were forbidden to marry and for ministering to Christians, who were persecuted under the Roman Empire; during his imprisonment, he is said to have healed the daughter of his jailer Asterius. Legend states that before his execution he wrote “from your Valentine” as a farewell to her.”
“The day was first associated with romantic love in the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer in the High Middle Ages, when the tradition of courtly love flourished. By the 15th century, it had evolved into an occasion in which lovers expressed their love for each other by presenting flowers, offering confectionery, and sending greeting cards (known as “valentines“).[1][3] Valentine’s Day symbols that are used today include the heart-shaped outline, doves, and the figure of the winged Cupid. Since the 19th century, handwritten valentines have given way to mass-produced greeting cards.[11]”
Ok fine….so it’s been going on for centuries…. I still don’t think there should be the obligatory ONE day a year where you HAVE to go all out…. except maybe my birthday… ๐ I like spontaneity … Surprise me… any day.
