Hi everyone! Talk about a hiatus – I know I’ve been M.I.A for a while now, but for those of you that don’t know, my husband and I had our first baby girl a few months ago! Her name is Olivia Grace, and she is truly the light of our lives. She has an amazing connection with her daddy and it’s really sweet to see how in love with her he is. I decided to take the fourth trimester off from everything to bond with her, and to bond as a family…. and now we are back!
Speaking of baby, I wanted to share with you my “fourth trimester” must haves! Being a first time mommy, I am in no way an expert… I’m just figuring things out as I go, which makes everything new, fun and exciting!
Here are some of the things that I’ve been loving!
Baby Bjorn Bouncer Balance – I read a blog when I was in my first trimester about baby must haves, and this was on that list. The blog claimed it to help the pooping process for a gassy and or constipated baby. Now, I’m as skeptical as the next guy and especially since this bouncer has a pretty price tag on it – I just wasn’t sure I wanted to spend the money. Well, when my baby was pretty gassy and hadn’t pooped for days…. I wanted to try anything! I’m here to tell you that this chair is a magic chair. It’s something about the position that helps everything align and within minutes of her being in it she started to get the poopin’ face…. you know what I’m talking about. I’d never been so happy about poop in my entire life. Welcome to motherhood.
Baby Magic Tea – Since we are on the topic of poop and gas, this one was another must have for us. This is what it claims :
- Baby will start sleeping thought the night since first use
- prevents and reliefs colic, gas and all kinds of discomfort for your baby
- 100% natural and organic and no preservatives
- A must have for every mom
- You will sleep through the night too even with twins in the house
I think most of that is smoke and mirrors, however I can say that it helps Olivia with her gas for sure. I’m exclusively nursing so I drink it and she gets it through my milk, however they say you can give it to your baby directly for a quicker effect.
Speaking of exclusively nursing, I highly recommend hiring a Lactation Consultant after you leave the hospital, if you plan on breastfeeding. Most mom’s don’t leave the hospital after giving birth with an over supply of milk (it should come in 4-7 days after giving birth), and while you are in the hospital you might be a little too groggy and it will be such a whirlwind to be able to remember everything the Lactation Consultant there talked to you about. We had ours come to our home the day after we came home from the hospital and she was amazing. She really helped me in every aspect of breast feeding and I still communicate with her if I ever have a question.
When you are breast feeding, I recommend keeping track of the last feedings. I originally bought a log from Babies R US, but then went the technological route and found an app for my phone (there is, indeed, an app for that). Here is an article I found with 9 must have apps for a breast feeding mommy.
KellyMom.com is an amazing and extremely helpful site that helps moms (especially new moms) get answers for their feeding questions. Especially the “How many oz is my baby drinking on average?” popular question. It’s mostly for nursing or pumping moms, however there is great information for everyone there.
Gripe Water – this goes with the gassy baby part. Made with fennel and ginger extract, it’s great for digestion and it helps relieve gas pain. I’m linking our favorite brand, however there are other brands out there.
White Noise App – trust me…. you’re going to want something if you didn’t get that sound machine you wanted from your registry. Save the money and get yourself an app. It’s easy and portable and your baby will love it.
If there is anything else that I think of in the future I will either add it to this post or make a new one.
Enjoying my baby daughter, getting to know her and bonding with her and my husband as a family has been my focus and I cherish every minute of every day with them. Yes, even the sleepless nights. 🙂
Thanks for stopping by!
