My Favorite Breast Feeding Products

One of my favorite things in the entire Universe is being able to breastfeed my children. I wrote a post about the third time and the things that helped me through the rough patches and today I want to tell you what products helped me with my milk production all three times!

  • Mrs. Patel’s Fenugreek Bars: I’ve used these for all three babies and they’ve made such a big difference! You can read my initial blog post about them HERE and watch my Youtube video HERE.
  • Let There Be Milk: This product I discovered with the third baby, and I believe that it’s magic in a bottle. When I felt my supply dip a little, or if Emerson was cluster feeding and I didn’t feel like she was getting enough milk, I would take 2 dropper fulls and I swear I felt my letdown happen in an instant! They do make it in a pill form, but I’ve never tried them. The liquid tastes horrible but it’s a small price to pay for the reward, in my opinion. I’ve heard of people putting dropper fulls in water, but I just take it straight.
  • Good ole Fenugreek: Some people can’t take Fenugreek or it doesn’t work as well, so that’s why there are products out there with more than Fenugreek in them, but I still take Fenugreek along with the other products if I feel like I need a boost.
  • Placenta Pills: Now, not everyone has had their placenta encapsulated (you’re missing out if you didn’t), but placenta pills for me was what helped my milk come in faster in the beginning, calmed my nerves, helped my Post Partum Depression (PPD) and kept my milk coming in at a steady pace. I will defend placenta encapsulation FOREVER because I believe so strongly that it is a lifesaver.
  • Oats: They are an essential for milk production and having oatmeal for breakfast is something that I do to maintain a healthy milk supply.
  • Brewer’s Yeast: I don’t know what it is about this product that helps so much but it does! I will say, however; Emerson developed a little bit of a rash when I started drinking smoothies with Brewer’s Yeast in them so I stopped. I’m not sure if it was the yeast or not, but I didn’t want to take any chances with a newborn.
  • Latch and Pump. All. The. Time. Yes, it’s a pain in the ass to pump after latching but stimulation and consistency are key. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – my absolute FAVORITE pump is the Elvie Pump. It’s convenient, easy, and effective. It’s pricey but worth the investment if you’re going to pump a lot.

Those are the basics! Remember to keep pumping if you don’t feel like your baby is pulling enough. Mastitis a real thing and trust me when I tell you that you do NOT want it. Here’s my post on how to treat it if you do get it.

I’d love to know if you have any favorites that I didn’t mention here!
