Meditation Practices for Beginners

Meditating is a huge part of my day. My morning routine includes meditating for at least 20 minutes and I wanted to share some helpful tips to help you along the way if you’re just starting out.

Beginner’s Meditations

If you’re a beginner and you don’t know where to start, there are lots of apps that have guided meditations anywhere from 5 minutes to 20 minutes and even longer. Guided meditation is just what it sounds like, it’s someone that is guiding you with their voice on breathing techniques or visualization techniques.

I started using the Peloton App in 2020 during our quarantine and I loved it. Most people think that it’s only for spin classes but they have so many other options! If you’re a runner, they have coached runs, yoga, and meditation. For meditation, you can choose how long you want to meditate and they will walk you through it.

The OpenFit App is one that I continue to use daily, not just for meditation but for my daily workouts as well. I love their sound bath meditations for daily alignment and for restful sleep. If you’d love a 14-day trial – CLICK HERE and let me know how you like it!

Youtube for Meditation

I’m sure you know that you can find anything on YouTube, am I right? There are certain chakra-aligning meditations that I will do in the morning to start the day before going into deeper meditation, however, there are days where I can only do a chakra meditation and I love that.

I’m also really into Yoga on Youtube and my favorite channel is Yoga With Adriene. She has a class for everyone and is perfect for someone just starting a yoga practice. She has some great meditation videos as well.

Crystals for Meditation

I’m a big fan of Crystals and using them for my meditations. When you’re just starting out I have found that it’s best to use one at a time. Crystals can help you get into a deeper meditation and help you gain more clarity. Keep an open mind and let their energy guide you through your meditation. Here are some of my favorites:

  • Clear Quartz – known as the “master healer” and will amplify energy and thought.
  • Selenite – a calming stone that instills deep peace.
  • Amethyst – known for its properties of cleansing, protection, and inspiration.
  • Rose Quartz – opens and heals the energy of the heart chakra.
  • Smoky Quartz – can balance Yin and Yang energies and helps to ground the Root Chakra.
  • Lapis Lazuli – the perfect stone for clearing emotional baggage.
  • Malachite – protects against negative energies. I find that once I’m open to receiving information, I need to protect my surroundings from negative energy.
  • Black Tourmaline – a purification, protection, and grounding stone.

Those are some of my favorites, but I have so many more that I use on a daily basis. Always go with your gut when choosing stones for your meditations or to use throughout your day.

I hope this mini-meditation guide served you today!
