Postpartum anxiety is a condition that affects many new mothers, bringing worries, fears, and overwhelming emotions. After careful research and personal reflection, I made the choice to try plant medicines to alleviate my anxiety and uncover any spiritual or mental blocks that weren’t serving me. In this post, I share my journey and explain why I decided to stay away from pharmaceuticals.

My Decision to Explore Plant Medicines

Before considering plant medicine, I delved into extensive research about its potential benefits and risks. I looked into the book “How to Change Your Mind” by Michael Pollan and watched the documentary of the same name on Netflix. It was eye-opening to discover a long history of indigenous cultures using plant medicines for healing purposes, and I recommend the book and documentary to anyone who asks. I was drawn to the idea of using natural substances that had been utilized for centuries instead of contributing to the pharmaceutical companies that, (Hot Take Alert) in my opinion, are designed to keep people out of sync. I have been on anti-depressants at different points in my life and felt no relief, but rather felt numb, disconnected, and experienced excessive weight gain (to name a few). I knew I wanted to try something different.

A Holistic Approach to Healing

One of the main reasons I decided to try plant medicines was my desire for a holistic approach to healing. Many pharmaceutical medications treat the symptoms rather than addressing the root cause. Plant Medicine, on the other hand, has been reported to provide a profound sense of connectedness and a deeper understanding of oneself. I wanted to explore this introspective journey to not only alleviate my anxiety but also find a more profound sense of self.

Mind-Opening Experiences

In my personal experiences with plant medicine, I discovered a world of profound self-reflection and spiritual connection. These substances allowed me to explore my fears and anxieties in a guided, safe, and supportive environment. Through the intense but transformative experiences, I gained valuable insights into my own thoughts and emotions. The resulting self-awareness and personal growth were invaluable in my journey towards overcoming postpartum anxiety.
